T�n� aamuna riensin junaan kuten kaikkina arkiaamuina. Tsekkasin obokat-vaunun numeron aseman kyltist�, ts. vaunun johon ei ole paikkavarauksia, ja asetuin paikalleni lukemaan kirjaa. Hieman ennen B�lstaa junan vauhti alkoi hidastua ja pian sen j�lkeen tulikin kuulutus: “juna hidastaa, menet�mme matka-ajasta muutaman minuutin – syyn� sabotaasi raiteilla“. J�ttesp�nnande!

Bad as Designed?

Recently the toy manufacturer Mattel had to recall toys because the toys were covered in paint which has lead. The toys also had small parts which could be swallowed – does not seem too healthy for small persons who like to taste toys. Now, in a move surely enforced by the Chinese government, Mattel has issued an apology to China, claiming that production quality was not the issue, but the issue was Mattel’s bad design all along.

Musings on the Turing Test

Suppose that intelligent, conscious, etc. persons A and B are taking the Turing test. Person A speaks the language X as his native language and person B is a native speaker of Y. They know no other languages – therefore they do not understand each other. Person A thinks person B is typing nonsense, and vice versa. Thus both parties see each other as failing the Turing test – both consider the other party being unintelligent. (more…)
